Huffington Post has given Patrick Wensink his own column. For his first installment he talks about the alchemy that is press and marketing. For a guy that has suddenly become a minor literary ultrastar, his outlook is a bit grim… or realistic? You’ll have to decide for yourself. I will say this though: Very kind of him to link to Deathbomb Arc in the article. Deathbomb Arc and Huffington Post together for the first time. Hopefully their next Deathbomb related article will be about something about nude pics of our CEO, Leroy Brown.
Publicity is the alchemy of the literary world. If someone knew how to consistently turn lead to gold, well, then, there’d be a lot less lead cracking our bookshelves.
But the secret is, we don’t know what we’re doing. (I say “we” because my publisher can’t afford marketing and since I spent about $100 mailing out review copies, I am, technically, a publicist, too.) The old ways of getting a review in respected magazines and being interviewed on Charlie Rose don’t sell books. We publicists tell ourselves it does, but that’s just so we have reasons not to lie our head on a train track.
Patrick Wensink’s novel and audiobook (on Deathbomb Arc! With score by True Neutral!), Broken Piano For President, is available via Amazon.

There is a very cool, and definitely very unique event going on in San Francisco tomorrow. If you can make it there, it gets a Deathbomb highest recommendation. Entitled Ravenous Caverns: An Evening of Live Eco-Soundscapes, this film and music event has been put together by eco-artist Amanda Hendicks. Her extremely cutting edge approach to eco-art has always been both refreshing and disturbing. Definitely not your typical cutesy feel good environmentalism (see driving over a tree in a steamroller…). Some of you long time Deathbomb fans will know Amanda for her musical work as Ecomorti (she did a collaboration with Foot Village on the Pisspounder 3xLP which you can d/l for free!).
For this event, Amanda will provide a field recording based electronic score to some very rare scientific films. Films with names like Modern Chrysanthemums and Cave Ecology. If this doesn’t excite the nerd in you, you may just want to throw out your “Geeks Do It With Joysticks” teeshirt right now.
This all goes down at Oddball Films tomorrow night. Seating is extremely limited, so be sure to rsvp.

Run DMT has a new split cassette with Tracey Trance out now on CGIFriday. An ever shape shifting monk in the temple of home recording, Run DMT seems to have reclaimed a form most similar to his first, web-only releases from a few years back. Since then he has traveled down new wave roads, doowop ones, and those unnamable. But it is his early work as a sort of anything goes in the name of Americana (not unlike pre-Sub Pop Sebadoh was) that made us fall in love with him.
CGIFriday has been kind enough to share a stream of the entire Run DMT side of the tape. The last tracks are esspecially great:

The Broken Piano For President audiobook is now sold out. But since this happened way faster than anticipated, we’re gonna do a very small 2nd run of it. Mostly going to determine how many of these to make via pre-orders, so if you missed out on the first batch, please be sure to make a pre-order for the 2nd one sometime in the next 2 weeks. The audiobook, which was written and read by Patrick Wensink, with music composed by True Neutral (member of Foot Village) is also on our bandcamp page, so you can stream it free or buy a digital only version at any time. Thanks everyone for checking out this new direction for Deathbomb!!

Last night’s ENTER THE INTERNET event was the most excitement I’ve ever had online. Thank you to everyone that attended and kept the energy up with their chats, webcams, and drawings on the virtual whiteboard! Tight Artists Net Gang and Deathbomb Arc will definitely be doing more of these asap.
Soon we will have an archive online with videos of all the performances from the event, screenshots of the madness, and more. In the meantime, here is the Clipping performance from last night. Was amazing to see how into this people got. Who the hell said hiphop needs beats? No one that saw this performance. Enjoy!

Batwings Catwings have a new music video out for their song “Early Exit”. The video was made with the help of Angie Meng, director of the first Back To The Future The Ride video and the Drainolith video. Batwings Catwings, which features Dana from Puppy Dog on vocals, was also one of the first bands to contribute to the Deathbomb Digital Singles Club. Homies! They play at the Smell soon with BITCHES!

Just added to the distro section of our webstore: RADIO SHOCK ‘internal symmetry’ cassette

Radio Shock has been dropping electro bangers for years, always coming from a true noise background. His latest offering shows his mastery of this harshclub genre like no other. Created by a musician/physicist, these tracks are not merely futuristic, they are scientific.
Cassette comes packaged in slick full color art and includes a digital download code.

New Moses Campbell music video for “Ceiling”!!! This song is one of two tracks from their recent Deathbomb Digital Singles Club single. The video has my favorite semi-fictional depiction of the Smell in it, from just how easy it is to sneak in to just how well attended most shows actually are.

Gimme Tinnitus mp3 blog just gave some love to the Digital Singles Club we run. Thought I’d return the favor by talking about why GT holds just a special place in my heart. While I am a huge fan of a lot of mp3 blogs that have created a distinct visual style for themselves (Hell, look what we just did to our own blog here, with the help of Tight Artists), Gimme Tinnitus has foregone worrying about elaborate decorations. Instead, they focus on delivering tons of new content every week. When I’m feeling like a hardcore music junky, they are the site I go to. So much amazing new music, tons of links to where you can find more on anything you like, and always letting the music speak for itself. If there ever is anything resembling a write up, its usually an interview where artists get to speak for themselves. If you are serious about independent music, this site is a must.
So, thank you Gimme Tinnitus for keeping it pure and plentiful. You rule. And thank you for sharing Dustin Wong’s track “Liberal Christian Youth Ministry” from the Deathbomb Digital Singles Club Year 2.
